Promoter Lou DiBella told BoxingScene.com that Ishe Smith will return to the junior middleweight division, and DiBella plans to put him in position for a major fight. On Friday night at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, Mississippi, Smith (21-5, 9 KOs) dropped a close ten round division to hot middleweight prospect Fernando Guerrero (19-0, 15 KOs). Smith tested Guerrero in every round, and dropped the young middleweight in the eight with a looping right hand.
"I thought Ishe fought a great fight. I think he can fight anyone at junior middleweight. He proved it in this fight and he proved in his last fight with Danny Jacobs. In his last two fights he fought the two best prospects in the middleweight division and he gave both of them a very hard time. I thought he won last night. I had Ishe winning by a point or two. I can live with the score of 95-93, the scores of 97-91 was a disgrace. If the fight took place somewhere other than Mississippi, he might have won the fight," DiBella told BoxingScene.com.
