Last night, two of the most talented fighters in the new era of Puerto Rican boxing saw action.
In Puerto Rico, Lightweight prospect Felix Verdejo (21-0, 14KOs) went the ten round distance with late replacement Jose Luis Rodriguez (18-9).
In Connecticut, Jose Pedraza (22-0, 12KOs) retained the IBF super featherweight title with a tough twelve round unanimous decision over mandatory challenger Stephen Smith.
On the social networks, Top Rank Vice President Carl Moretti [who promotes Verdejo] took a shot at the promotional banners for the event, because Pedraza's name was significantly smaller than the main event combatants.
"What a way to "promote" a champion. Can just about see your name @sniperpedraza #somerespect," Moretti wrote.
That comment caused Lou DiBella, also known as Mount DiBella, to erupt. DiBella promotes Pedraza.
Moretti had previously worked for DiBella before taking a position with Top Rank in 2009.
"From an *sshole who I befriended and hired when he needed a job. TR TRASH," DiBella shot back. "And when the grass seemed greener elsewhere, took job with [Top Rank] and started doing their dirty work when I was still paying @CarlMoretti."
"Stop f***ing [with] my fighters @CarlMoretti and worry about your own dysfunctional empire of hate. Keep matching Verdejo like a novice...and keep watching Verdejo fail to improve or impress. Pedraza light years ahead in ring. Go watch an old Cowboys game & get your rocks off."
Moretti shot back as well. Making a reference to the ongoing legal battle between Top Rank and manager/adviser Al Haymon. DiBella promotes numerous fighters who are under contract with Haymon and he's also one of the promoters under Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions banner.
"@loudibella ....see you at the depos. #gotnothingtohide. #lawyerup," Morettu wrote.
Everything seemed to die down after DiBella's final comment.
"Really adult and appropriate Carl. I'm not even a party. Will be forwarded to Judge. Shameful," DiBella wrote.
