An offer was presented a few weeks ago and the deal was reached for Miguel Diaz, a very experienced cutman and trainer, to work the corner of Manny Pacquiao for his November 14 bout with Miguel Cotto. Diaz was a member of Team Cotto but was fired without explanation after Miguel had the violent split with uncle/trainer Evangelista Cotto a few months ago.

While a reason was never given, there were rumors in Puerto Rico that Diaz was viewed by members of Cotto's team as an ally of Evangelista. At one point there were rumors that Diaz would take over as Miguel's head trainer after Evangelista was gone so it was shocking to the veteran cutman when was dropped from the team.

Cotto would replace Diaz with another veteran cutman, Joe Chavez. Chavez has worked with Manny Pacquiao in the past.

Diaz had no hard feelings when Cotto let him go but recently he went on the record and said that he is "100% confident that Pacquiao will beat Cotto" on November 14.
