Cuban trainer Pedro Diaz says he would not be bitter if former three division world champion Miguel Cotto decided to hire another trainer for a planned return in the fall. Cotto's team recently confirmed that there have been conversations to potentially hire Freddie Roach, but there have also been talks with other trainers as well. Diaz has trained Cotto (37-4, 30KOs) for his last couple of fights.
"Miguel is a smart fighter and he has a great team and advisors. What he decides to do is the best thing for his career and his family. I know him and I know he thinks about every detail of every step that he takes. If he eventually decides that Roach will be in his corner, [the move] will be somewhat successful. We are talking about the best coach in the world and I say this with absolute certainty. From the point of view of knowledge of boxing, [Roach] is still number one. I have a lot of respect for him," Diaz told George Ebro.
