Devon Alexander wasn't supposed to share the spotlight for his fall bout with Shawn Porter.
The fight was originally slated to headline a Showtime card on Nov. 30, but will now be on the undercard of Zab Judah-Paulie Malignaggi on Dec. 7 from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
No matter, Alexander (25-1, 14 KOs) plans on stealing the show in his IBF welterweight title defense against Porter.
"This fight is going to be one of my signature fights," Alexander said during a media conference call Tuesday. "Shawn Porter is going to come to fight. Of course he is, he's supposed to. That's what he's supposed to do. But it's not going to be enough. I believe in my skills. You've got to believe in yourself, believe in your skills."
Porter (22-0-1, 14 KOs) said during the call that his past sparring with Manny Pacquiao prepared him for a bout of this caliber. But Alexander dismissed that notion and actually believes those sparring sessions will have a negative effect on Porter.
"You know, as far as sparring with Pacquiao -- I'm not a sparring partner," Alexander said. "I don't go around sparring with people. I don't have that mentality. When you go around sparring other fighters, you know get that sparring mentality, right. You know, 'I need to take off, I need to let him beat me'; I don't have that. I'm not a sparring partner."
