BoxingScene.com's Jake Donovan recently spoke to IBF welterweight champion Randall Bailey in an article that can be found here :
A showdown between Bailey and former junior welterweight champion Devon Alexander has been agreed to for weeks however the venue hadn't been finalized.
Golden Boy wanted to stage the fight in Alexander's hometown of St Louis where he is a proven ticket seller. In previous interviews on BoxingScene, Bailey stated that he wouldn't go to Alexander's hometown.
In Donovan's article Bailey said, "It never mattered to me where the fight takes place, but I just didn't feel like I had to go to St. Louis. I mean, I'm giving him a f***ing shot at the title. He's not even in contention, so why should I go to his hometown? It could've taken place anywhere else and wouldn't have been a big deal to me."
Alexander's trainer and manager Kevin Cunningham had previously stated to BoxingScene that they would be more than happy to fight Bailey outside of St. Louis. "We can fight him on Mars. The result will be the same. Bailey is going to get his ass whooped," Cunningham told us a few weeks ago.
Cunningham was pleased to hear that the fight was taking place in Memphis and offered a prediction for the fight.
"I think Memphis is a great location for this fight. Everybody knows that Memphis is known for their barbecue so it's the perfect place for Devon to smoke Bailey," Cunningham told Boxingscene.
