Derrick James, Garcia's trainer, gave his fighter quite a pep talk before Round 8 began. With so little action, the rounds could be close on the scorecards or in Romero's favor at this point. How will Garcia respond? So far, not with the urgency James wanted. Round 8 was more of the same. Lots of posturing and feinting. Garcia did get in a right hand that might've been behind Romero's head, and he popped Romero with three good jabs with about a minute to go in the round. When Romero rushed in with about 30 seconds to go, Garcia backed away and the two fighters clinched.
