Middleweight Derek Hinkey and super featherweight Lonnie Smith will fight on separate bouts Aug. 27 at the Churchill County Fairgrounds in Fallon, Nev.
“The Fallon show is by far the funnest show for us each year. It has grown each year, and we are grateful to have such an amazing relationship with that city,” said Terry Lane, CEO of Let’s Get It On Promotions.
Hinkey (8-2, 7 KOs), a slugger from Reno, will return to the ring after a 20-month layoff when he faces Anthony Bartinelli (20-14-2, 13 KOs). Bartinelli hopes to welcome Hinkey back with a loss as he attempts to break a four-bout losing streak against fighters with a combined record of 56-5-1.
“Derek is heavy handed, but can be a slick boxer as well,” Lane said. “It’s a big fight for him to take after such a long layoff. But if he gets through the tough Bartinelli, then he is right back on track.”
Exciting super featherweight Lonnie Smith (13-2-2, 9 KOs) is slated to see action as well. Smith is coming off a win “Dangerous” David Rodela in April.
“I think the boxing world misses guys like Lonnie, which is why we signed him,” Lane said. “He is the gamest fighter I've ever worked with. He is passionate about boxing, and fights his ass off every fight.”
Another Reno pug, Oscar Vasquez, will be making his pro debut against fellow first-timer Vincente Medellin. Rounding out the card, Jose “Chuy” Elizondo encounters Max Alexander, and Carey “Bubba” Dupree takes on Jack Montgomery.
