Denkaosan Kaovichit (46-1, 20KOs) of Thailand knocked out Takefumi Sakata (33-5, 15KOs) of Japan in the second round to win the WBA flyweight title at the Sun Plaza Hall in Hiroshima, Japan. Sakata was making the fifth defense of his title and held wins over Roberto Vasquez and Lorenzo Parra in his last few outings.
Kaovichit caught Sakata cold with a right hand, sending the champion down. Sakata was unable to beat the count. Kaovichit gets his revenge. The two fought to a draw last November, but there were many who said that Kaovichit did enough to win.
