At the Treasure Island Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Antonio DeMarco (23-1, 17KOs) stopped Jose Alfaro (23-5, 20KOs) in the tenth round to win the interim-WBC lightweight title. DeMarco is now the mandatory challenger to full champion Edwin Valero (25-0, 25KOs).

DeMarco showed Alfaro a lot of respect in the early rounds by keeping his distance and using a jab. He started to let his hands go in the second, trapping Alfaro in the corner and unloading with some big combos. DeMarco continued to batter Alfaro in the third. Alfaro tried to close the distance but couldn't land anything big. The next couple of rounds saw plenty of hard exchanges. By the eight round, both fighters had swelling on their face. DeMarco continued to control the pace and the fight with his jab. In the tenth round, DeMarco unloaded with power shots to send Alfaro down. A few punches later he sent Alfaro down for the second time in the round. And then a few more punches forced Alfaro to take a knee and ref Joe Cortez stopped the contest.
