George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs) is due to challenge Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs) for the WBC super middleweight world title in the United States with a date yet to be officially confirmed. The trainer of Groves' arch rival James DeGale believes that the Londoner has a great shot at winning the belt which could potentially set up a unification rematch between the two Brits.
"Yeah, I think he's got a great chance," Jim McDonell told BoxingScene.
"James was going to fight him [Jack] before he got beat. I don't think Badou Jack is an Andre Dirrell. He is a good fighter and something that impresses me is that The Mayweathers have kept him on board and he went and won a world title.
"I think if George is going to win a world title it will be against someone like Badou Jack. If he's going to win a world title, this is the opponent to do it against, beyond that it's a tough ask.
"This is a 50/50 fight because Jack is going to have more confidence since becoming world champion and he will improve as a fighter," McDonnell continued.
"George at his best will beat Badou Jack but in his last couple of fights since Froch he's looked a shade underneath. Whether it was a lack of motivation I don't know. But he didn't look like the George Groves we've come to recognize."
