IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale is laughing at the recent taunts from Chris Eubank Jr., who in several recent interviews promised to snatch away the rest of DeGale's teeth.
DeGale suffered injuries in last month's twelve round draw with WBC world champion Badou Jack at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Among them was a fractured nose, a busted eardrum and a few of his teeth were knocked out. He was advised by his doctor to stay away from contract training for nearly seven weeks.
DeGale has a mandatory obligation to Jose Uzcategui, but he may attempt to make a voluntary against another opponent.
Last week, Eubank moved up to 168-pounds and captured the IBO super middleweight title with a stoppage win over once-beaten Australian boxer Renold Quinlan.
After his win, he called for a unification with DeGale and taunted his domestic rival by calling him a "coward" if he didn't accept the challenge.
DeGale believes Eubank Jr. brings absolutely nothing to the table to entice the possibility of a summer fight.
"This guy has turned down Gennady Golovkin and Billy Joe Saunders and all of a sudden, because I'm doing so well, he wants to fight me," DeGale said to The Mirror. "They [Eubank Jr. and his father] actually make me laugh, they're a comedy act. ... He's telling people he's got a genuine world title, but there are only four world titles and everyone in boxing is laughing at him.
"Eubank Jr. has boxed absolutely no-one and the one time he stepped up to the plate, he got beat. ... There are levels in boxing and I'd find it hard to get in the ring with him because he brings nothing to the table. He knows I'm at the very top; he wants to fight me for the money. It would be a big fight in England but I don't really want to give him a chance.
"I remember being in his position a couple of years ago when I was the mandatory challenger for Carl Froch's world title and he wanted nothing to do with me because he thought I hadn't boxed anyone and I wasn't at his level; well I'm in the same position now."
