Junior middleweight contender Deandre "The Bull" Latimore (21-3) reached out to BoxingScene.com to express his interest in facing Andy Lee on the undercard to the Sergio Martinez-Sergei Dzinzurik featured bout that will be televised by HBO on March 12th.
Lee was originally scheduled to face John Duddy as the televised co-feature to the Martinez versus Dzinzurik main event. A few days ago Duddy left a six-figure payday on the table as he shockingly retired from the sport.
"I see that Andy Lee needs an opponent for March 12th now that Duddy has retired. I am ready to step up and take that fight," Latimore told BoxingScene.
Latimore bounced back from last March's majority decision loss to Sechew Powell by knocking out Darien Ford in July. That was his first fight back with his old team of trainer Jacob Chavez and strength and conditioning coach Ray Franklin since his upset knockout win over Sechew Powell in their first encounter in June of 2008. "After losing to Powell in the second fight I started working with Jacob and Ray again. They were in my corner when I knocked Powell out the first time around. I am ready to show the world what I can do. With my team back together people will see the old Bull again."
The St. Louis native feels that one tune up was all he needed and he is now ready for a step up fight. "I want to fight Lee but I am willing and ready to fight any of the top 10 in the junior middleweight division." Latimore is promoted by Lou DiBella and Rumbe Time Promotions.
