The boxing industry wheels are turning. A few days ago, Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya announced on his personal Twitter page - "major announcement soon to come that will shake the boxing industry in a major way." De La Hoya plans to make the announcement on Tuesday.
From the moment De La Hoya posted his series of tweets, on March 2, several popular rumors have been swirling within the boxing industry. The rumors which are circulating strong are listed below.
1. The most popular industry rumor, at the moment, has De La Hoya announcing a return for a rematch with WBA 160-pound champion Felix Sturm, who De La Hoya defeated by way of a controversial decision in 2004. Some say the fight would take place at Brooklyn's Barclays Center, with possible network coverage on CBS.
Sturm has a planned defense against Sebastian Zbik on April 14 in Germany and he could very well lose that fight.
Some of more knowledgeable industry insiders believe the De La Hoya comeback chatter is simply a swirve to drive reporters off-track from discovering the actual announcement.
2. The second most popular rumor is a possible multi-show deal between Golden Boy and Showtime's parent company, CBS, which involves several events being showcased on mainstream television and the deal may or may not tie in with Golden Boy's exclusive deal with the Barclays Center.
