MGM Grand, Las Vegas - Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya informed BoxingScene.com that there is "no rush" on reaching an agreement for a mega-match between WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs) and Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs)

Money, top billing or otherwise - De La Hoya has no idea what's holding up a deal being reached on Cotto's side.

"I have no idea. Like I said, my side is done. [Top Rank President] Todd [duBoef], [Cotto's legal adviser] Gaby [Penagaricano] and [Top Rank CEO] Bob [Arum] - they are dealing with Cotto. It's out of my hands," De La Hoya told BoxingScene.com.

"We have time [to get the deal done]. We're in mid-December. May is several months away. There is no rush. Normally a big gets done 2-3 months out."

De La Hoya also says the lucrative Cinco De Mayo date of May 2 is their target - and the Golden promoter is not concerned with Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s desire to fight on the same date.

"Canelo knows what he wants, he is determined to fight in May and that's what I have to go and get him," De La Hoya said.
