Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya is planning to further expand his business dealings with HBO in 2015. After a lot of tension in 2013, HBO cut their business ties with Golden Boy, who began to work exclusively with Showtime. But after the June departure of Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, De La Hoya has managed to rebuild the relationship with HBO and even signed his star fighter, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, to an exclusive deal with the network.
"We are in talks with HBO, we are focusing on the next steps for next year. I think boxing is going to be very strong in 2015, and for this reason HBO wants to offer the best fights to everyone. I think the most important thing is to use the various platforms that HBO has. HBO Latino is where we can start to promote upcoming young Latinos," De La Hoya told ESPN Deportes.
De La Hoya says his company will continue their relationship with Showtime. They are staging a tripleheader on the network on December 13th, headlined by Amir Khan vs. Devon Alexander.
"It's better for boxing, it is better for the boxer because he has more options in terms of more money, with Showtime and HBO. There are more options, more dates for boxing. The winner here is the fan," De La Hoya said.
