The LA Times is reporting that Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions has reached tentative agreements for 3 mega bouts to take place in 2006.
Oscar De La Hoya is set to challenge Ricardo Mayorga for the WBC junior middleweight title on May 6. De La Hoya makes his first return to the ring since being stopped by Bernard Hopkins in 2004.
Shane Mosley is set to clash with Fernando Vargas at 154 pounds. The bout is set for Chavez is set for February 25. Mosley has recently been competing in the welterweight division and moves up in weight to challenge Vargas.
Logic would tell us that the winners of the two junior middleweight bouts will face off later in the year. It would be interesting to see what would happen if both Mosley and De La Hoya win. Would the two partners actually put business relations and friendship aside to lock up for a third meeting?
No matter which way you turn the bouts around, there are millions of dollars to be made. The biggest bout coming out of this scenario would be a rematch between De La Hoya and Vargas, but neither fighter is a lock to win.
Marco Antonio Barrera, as expected will move up to 135 pounds to challenge Jesus Chavez for the IBF lightweight title on March 25. Barrera currently owns the WBC and IBF super-featherweight titles. No word if Barrera will vacate his two titles in order to make the move.
