Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya is expecting a very big 2015 for his company. De La Hoya has been signing up new fighters, gaining new champions to his company and he is now working with both HBO and Showtime.
De La Hoya's superstar fighter, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs), was set to return in December, but suffered an ankle injury and had to withdraw. Canelo is looking to return in May of 2015, hopefully against WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs). De La Hoya says there is no reason to rush the fighter's return.
"We believe that 2015 will be a special year for us. Saul is young, still 24 years old. He has at least another ten years as a boxer and there is no rush to put him in a fight if he's injured. We're discussing his upcoming fights now that we're back with HBO," De La Hoya said.
"We see a very bright future for Saul. I think that he is just starting his career and I'm sure that's the best [direction to take]. Everyone wants to see Miguel Cotto vs. Canelo Alvarez and we hope to do it soon."
