The back and forth negotiations to make the heavyweight clash between New Zealand rivals David Tua and Shane Cameron continues. The middleman promoter, David Higgins of Ducto, is trying his best to keep the fight on board. It was originally planned for March, then pushed to May and now appears to be landing on June 9.
Cameron's side has been asking for a lot and their demands have been met, but the talks continue to keep going without a finalzied agreement. According to The Sunday Times, Cameron will go forward with a fight in Gisborne on March 8, both Cameron and Tua will make $500,000 each for their fight, and the fight gets pushed from May 9 to June 6. Higgins expects a final decision before the end of the week, as he appears to be losing his mind with five weeks of back and forth negotiations to make the fight.
"Team Cameron have the opponent they been asking for, they have the pay parity they've been asking for and they have flexibility around timing which they asked for," Higgins said to The Times. "They have their contract and they have communicated to me they are close to a decision. The Fight of the Century is closer now than ever before."
