It was reported by NZPA, that heavyweight veteran David Tua has turned down a fight with fellow New Zealand fighter Shane Cameron (17-0, 15KOs), who called Tua out for an early 2007 clash.

Tua's manager, wife Robina said that before her fighter considers a bout against the talented prospect, he must first raise his status in the heavyweight division in order to attract American promoters that could pay Tua the kind of money he would need for the fight.

Cameron's manager Ken Reinfield wants the two heavyweights to battle in Auckland early next year. Tua's manager confirmed that her fighter already has a bout scheduled for January 26, in New York against Robert Hawkins.

Tua's adviser Inga Tuigamala said that his fighter is focused on getting another shot at the heavyweight title, and a fight between the two men only benefits Cameron.

"I know Shane Cameron has been banging the drum and wants to get it on with David, but from David's perspective, Shane is still on his way up the ladder and at the moment a fight between them would be of more benefit to Shane than David," Tuigamala told the Sunday Star-Times.
