Heavyweight contender David Tua (47-3, 40 KOs) won a harder than expected ten-round unanimous decision over Robert Hawkins (21-6, 7 KOs) in the main event of a Gotham Boxing card that took place Roseland Ballroom in New York City. The scores were 96-94, 99-91 and 96-94.
The win marks the fifth straight for Tua, who is trying to land a title shot before the close of 2007. The fact that Tua is having trouble with less than stellar opponents is a sign that it make take a while longer before he is ready to face an elite heavyweight.
"Mean" Joe Greene (14-0, 11 KOs) stopped Pat Coleman (29-14, 20 KOs) in the first round.
In a battle of middleweights, "Kid Chocolate" Peter Quillin (9-0, 8 KOs) walked through Steve Walker (20-15, 14 KOs) in less than 40-seconds of the first round. Can someone please give Quillin a man to fight with a pulse? Quillin is walking right through his opponents with barely any of them making it out of the first round.
