After former cruiserweight champion Kelvin Davis pulled out from a proposed bout with David Tua at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City on November 3, promoter Cedric Kushner went to work on finding a last minute opponent.
It's been reported by the media in New Zealand that Kushner has come to terms with Ross Puritty to face Tua.
Puritty is a gritty contender, who holds a TKO win over current IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko. Purrity upset an undefeated Klitschko in 1998, when the far inexperienced Klitschko did not pace himself and was so fatigued that the bout was stopped in the 11th round. Vitali got revenge for his brother when he stopped Purrity in the 11th round in 2001.
Puritty has not been stopped since the bout with Vitali Klitschko and is said by fighters to be a very difficult opponent to stop inside the distance.
