HERMOSILLO, SON - In a big fight of power and boxing, prospect David "Tornado" Sanchez (19-2, 16 KOs) scored a technical knockout in the eighth and final round over Carlos "Charly" Valenzuela at the Solidarity Fitness Center in Hermosillo, Sonora. The "Tornado" showed his potential and his boxing ability on a willing and courageous Valenzuela.
The first four rounds were very even where two contestants stood in the middle of the ring and went toe to toe with hard punches. But the beating to the body of Valenzuela began to shows profits in the fifth round, as Sanchez took control of the fight.
In the sixth and seventh rounds, Sanchez exploded with his combinations and caused an impressive wound to Valenzuela's left eyebrow. In the eighth, Sanchez came out determined to close the show and sent his opponent to the canvas with a precise hook to the liver. Valenzuela beat the count, but then received a flurry of punches against the ropes to force referee Octavian López to stop the fight. The audience applauded the action that both men offered.
Sanchez, who is promoted by Zanfer, will rest for three days and then resume training in Los Mochis for his next fight, scheduled for July 2 in Hermosillo, Sonora on the undercard to the first defense of the WBA flyweight title by Hernan "Tyson" Marquez.
Another talent that shined was the "Super" Mario Villela (8-0, 8 KOs) who knocked out Ivan Chabela in two rounds.
Villela, who had the luxery of sparring with Jorge "Travieso" Arce, showed great technique and right hand power against a fierce opponent.
In another bout, Rogelio Medina needed only 38 seconds of the first round to stop veteran Joel "Dinamita" Juárez.
