Event handlers are still in search of a suitable opponent for heavyweight David Price, who is still on target for a February 21 ring return at O2 World Arena in Berlin, Germany. The 6’8” Brit appears in the chief supporting slot to the super middleweight title fight rematch between Arthur Abraham and Paul Smith.
Regardless of the fighter standing in the opposite corner, the heavyweight hopeful is eager to get his career back in gear.
“It’s great to be fighting on the undercard of such a big show,’’ said Price (18-2, 15KOs). “I’m looking forward to getting back in the ring and reminding everyone what I’m all about.”
Three straight wins came out of a rebuilding year in 2014, following a disastrous 2013 ring campaign that saw Price suffer back-to-back knockouts against middle-aged contender Tony Thompson. The setbacks resulted in a complete makeover, including his signing with Sauerland Event after a career spent with former promoter Kellie (nee Frank) Maloney.
Price will fight in Germany for the third time among the four fights (come Feb. 21) that comprise of his current comeback, with the other appearance taking place in Denmark.
The hope upon signing with Sauerland more than a year ago was that he would be a little closer to title contention by this point. Injuries got in the way, including damage to his right hand during his 10-round decision win over Yaroslav Zavorotnyi last June.
Price has been inactive since that fight, but at the very least has restored his confidence. More so than extending his winning streak, the plan now is to manuever his way into title contention and perhaps make a run at World heavyweight king Wladimir Klitschko or even newly crowned titlist Deontay Wilder by year's end.
“2015 is going to be a big year for me,” Price believes. “It's important I get off to a good start on February 21.”
