Liverpool’s Olympic bronze medallist David Price is expecting to be challenging for world honours in the next two years after racking up nine wins since March 2009. The 27 year-old will make it 10 wins in just over two years on April 27th, if he can come American Raphael Butler (35-9, 28 KO’s) at the Liverpool Olympia.
The 6ft 8ins goliath would be ready for his title shot by the summer of 2013 if he keeps as active as he has so far in his career and with his sheer size and power, along with his 80% knockout record; the Scouser has the belief in his ability to reach the summit of the heavyweight ranks.
“In 11 fights time that is a realistic target,” Price told The Liverpool Echo.
“It would have been unheard of to be fighting for a world title after 20 fights but look at Odlanier Solis, he did so after 17 fights against Vitali Klitschko.
“And look at Dereck Chisora and David Haye getting the shots after only a few fights, it just seems to be the way of it these days.
“My next opponent is another step up for me. He’s won 35 and lost nine with 28 victories by knockout. He comes to fight and is coming to take my head off my shoulders. I think Butler presents potentially a tougher test than (John) McDermott.”
Also on the bill is another hometown fighter in British flyweight champion Paul Edwards (8-0), who was due to meet Usman Ahmed (6-4-1) in a non-title fight, but will now meet Darlington’s Kevin Colgan after the Derby fighter pulled out of their planned April 27th bout.
