Morrell worked the jab at the start of the round, though Khataev put his infighting skills to use to slip most of the incoming. Morrell connected with a combination as Khataev mistakenly anticipated a break command from the referee. Khataev missed with a left, which was counted by a Morrell right hook over the top. A right hand by Khataev landed through Morrell's high but leaky guard. Another right hand by Khataev backed Morrell into the ropes late.
