Middleweight contender David Lemieux enters the new WBC rankings in the second tier position of the top ten. The WBC placed him just behind Mexican Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. This new deal could thereby allow promoter Yvon Michel to override the anticipated fight against Marco Antonio Rubio.
The WBC ordered for an eliminator between David Lemieux and Marco Antonio Rubio. Yvon Michel wanted the fight to take place in Montreal, but was unable to reach an agreement with Rubio's people. They may go to a purse bid in January.
If the current WBC champion Sergio Martinez refuses to face Zbik as directed by the WBC, he could lose his crown and Zbik could be elevated to the spot of full champion. This promotion is however subject to a victory over an opponent appointed by the WBC and the sanctioning body could then order a fight between Lemieux and Chavez to the new status of mandatory. In the event that Chavez refuses, then Lemieux would have a free hand to deal directly with Zbik.
