At the Bell Centre in Montreal, top-rated middleweight prospect David Lemieux (25-0, 24KOs) continued his deadly streak of batterings by stopping Purnell Gates (18-2 13KOs) in two rounds. Things didn't start well for Gates. He appeared to hurt his right hand in the first minute of the first round. In the second, Lemieux caught up to him and sent him down twice before the corner of Gates made a wise decision to stop the ffght.

In the co-feature, unbeaten super featherweight Arash Usmanee (10-0) picked up the NABA title with a clear unanimous ten round decision over experienced Pedro Navarrete (25-10-3). The scores were 98-91, 99-90 and 97-92.
