Former two division world champion David Haye (28-2, 26KOs) is prepared to answer the call of Tony Bellew (27-2-1, 17KOs), who on Sunday night in Liverpool capture the WBC cruiserweight title with a knockout of Ilunga Makabu in three rounds.
Following that victory, Bellew callled for a fight with Haye and called the former beltholder a "bitch."
Bellew has taken that position with Haye in several recent interviews, but Hayemaker was angered when he was called a "bitch" before a televised audience and in front of 20,000 at Goodison Park.
Haye, 35-years-old, held the WBC title when he was a unified world champion at that weight. Last weekend blew away unbeaten but overmatched Arnold Gjergjaj in two rounds. Haye is going to fight former world champion Shannon Briggs in the fall.
Bellew hopes to cut in there and drag Haye into a fight.
“I will fight anyone. Show me the cheque and I will fight them. I think I’d fight my mother if the cheque was big enough. I’m not scared of anyone. I sparred with David when I was an amateur and when he was an established, world-rated cruiserweight on the verge of the Commonwealth title," Bellew said.
“Let me tell you, I wasn’t found wanting when I was sparring with anyone. I’m not saying I can mix with the giants of heavyweights, because your modern-day heavyweight is a giant compared to me – like Tyson Fury, David Price, Anthony Joshua. But any of those little heavyweights I’d fight all day – and I’d kick their arses.
“I’ll fight that bitch from Bermondsey [Haye] as long as he gets down to his natural weight and he knows what his natural weight is – his real weight, because he’s a cruiserweight, there are no two ways about it. What he is doing at the moment is degrading boxing, it’s sad. David’s better than that and he knows it. He wouldn’t use that guy as a sparring partner because of his head coming off in the gym, so how can they justify putting that on television? It’s not fair.
“David is possibly the quickest heavyweight in the world and possibly the most dangerous. So fighting a guy who learned to box on YouTube – you’re having a laugh. That last fella looked like Lurch from The Addams Family. Going down off a jab and looking at the referee to help you out, you’ve got a problem. It’s a joke and it’s making a mockery of boxing. The only thing missing was Hulk Hogan coming running down the aisle.”
Haye has responded and fully prepared to add Bellew to the hitlist of future opponents.
"Maybe that punch that you took in the first round that dropped you - maybe your brain got scrambled, because you must really want to get knocked out by calling me a Bermondsey bitch and talking about knocking me out - you must have lost your God damn mind," Haye stated."
"After I've knocked out Shannon Briggs who's been giving me a lot of that [trash talk] himself, if you want to be on the list too I'm knocking out all people talking too much, so get on the list mate and you're going to get smashed to bits. I used to be a cruiserweight so we're both the same height, we're both the same size - so let's do it if you want it."
