IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko was very happy with his knockout win over mandatory Tony Thompson at the Color Line Arena in Germany. Another man happy that Klitschko pulled out the win is former undisputed cruiserweight champion David Haye, who moves up to heavyweight in the fall and for the last few months has been calling Klitschko out.
Haye was not impressed with Klitschko's win. He doesn't think the Ukranian champion has a defense or knows how to fight. He predicts a three-round knockout if Klitschko performs in the same mannger when they are in the ring. He claims to have mastered Klitschko's style and will know every move that he makes.
"I'm happy that Klistchko won. Klitschko has no defense. All Klitschko did was hold. He has a pawing jab and hopes to land that one right hand. You can't teach an old dog new tricks. He's been doing the same thing year after year. Every time he's gotten in the ring with someone fresh, someone fast and someone with some heart - he's been knocked out. I'm that guy. If he fights me the same way he fought that guy tonight, he's get knocked out in three rounds," Haye said to Setanta Sports News.
"The first big punch I'll land, I'll knock him out. He has the perfect, perfect style for me. I don't want him to have any more fights before me because I don't want anyone else to do what I'm going to do to him. I watched every single one of his fights ten times. I know every move that Klitschko makes before he does."
"I see the same pattern time after time. The same patterns I saw in Enzo Maccarinelli are the same patterns I see in Klitschko and he will get knocked out in the same manner that Enzo did. I can’t tell you how much his style will gel with mine and end with a violent knockout very, very quickly. I will do what I have to do to get in that position where he is forced to fight me."
Klitschko will first have to meet IBF mandatory Alexander Povetkin in the fall, but Haye is not worried. He thinks Klitschko will beat Povetkin in the same manner that he did Thompson.
"Klitschko doesn't allow fighters to get inside like Povetkin. Little, short plodding guys that walk forward. Povetkin isn’t very fast. He [Povetkin] likes guys to come close and get inside because he has a good workrate. Klitschko won't work at him. He'll keep pawing with that long jab and Povetkin doesn’t close distance very quickly - I do. I have no worries over that Povetkin fight because Klitschko will outpoint him or stop him late like he did tonight."
