Former cruiserweight and heavyweight champion David Haye (26-2, 24KOs) does not rule out the possibility of colliding with Olympic gold medal winner Anthony Joshua (14-0, 14KOs) in 2016.
Haye announced his ring return for January 16th, against Australian puncher Mark De Mori. The Haymaker has been out of action since a fifth round knockout of Dereck Chisora in July of 2012.
Joshua returns next month against his domestic rival Dillian Whyte. The unbeaten Olympian is already highly ranked by the World Boxing Council and not far away from a mandatory title shot at champion Deontay Wilder.
Wilder is going to have a voluntary defense in January and then has to meet up with mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin. Joshua would be the next man in line.
"I may have to go through [Joshua] to get to my goal of being the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. Ironically I might have to challenge him for the title. Deontay Wilder in his next fight might say 'okay, I want to fight Joshua.' And then Joshua wins and I might have to challenge Joshua for the title. You never know what happens in boxing," Haye told BoxingScene.com in a video interview.
"What we do know is that he's a fantastic specimen. He's a talent. He's doing everything right. He's got a solid test against Dillian Whyte, who's a solid campaigner in his own right, a solid prospect, a guy who is unbeaten and beaten [Johsua] in the amateurs as well."
