Daryl "Flash" Basadre has won the World Boxing Foundation (WBF) vacant Asia Pacific flyweight title with a lopsided ten round decision over Joivel Romasasa in General Santos City.

Well known Australian boxing promoter and TV boxing host Peter Maniatis told the Manila Standard that Basadre “showed heaps of heart and boxing ability.”

Maniatis said that “the sky is the limit for the 19 year old former amateur star who had Romasas down twice in the 9th round."

The Aussie promoter described Basadre as “ a very good boxer and counter
puncher who reminds me of (Juan Manuel) Marquez.”

Making his pro debut on the same card was Harmonito De La Torre who scored a shutout 40-36 decision over Romer De La Cruz who was fighting in his second pro bout.

Maniatis said that despite giving away 7 pounds the former amateur De La Torre who weighed 132 pounds to De La Cruz’ 139, was in command throughout the fight.

He said De La Torre is a “classy 17 year old who showed speed and power in a stylish debut and looks an exciting prospect.”
