It was reported by Sky Sports News that super middleweight prospect Darren Sutherland (4-0, 4KOs) was found dead at his home in Bromley, South London at 3PM by his manager, Frank Maloney. Sutherland, 27, won bronze medal for Ireland in the middleweight division at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China. The cause of death is now being reported as suicide. Maloney told police that Sutherland hung himself.
He was also promoted by Maloney, who said it was a huge loss for Irish sports and for boxing in general. Sutherland was seen as a highly regarded up and coming star.
