Matt Macklin and Darren Barker will reveal previously unseen sides of their characters on September 18 in Birmingham.

The two clash at the LG Arena for the European middleweight title currently held by Barker.

And both are expecting to employ new tactics in the fight.

Macklin has a reputation for a brawler, while Barker is more of a tactician.

But the public's perception could change after they clash.

"People wonder if I can go into the trenches," said Barker. "If this fight goes into the trenches, I'll show them the answer.

"I will be ready, I will be ready for war.

"People also question my chin, but I've only been down twice and that was against big hitters. I got back up to win, but I've taken harder shots in sparring and not budged.

"Come fight night I will be ready to take anything Macklin throws at me. I will be fully physically and mentally prepared."

Macklin added: "I think my boxing brain is very under-rated. Darren's seen as the technical one, I'm the fighter, but I'm a great all-rounder.

"I had a lot of good amateur experience and it is very easy to under-estimate my ring smartness.

"I think a lot of people will be surprised at what I do in this fight.

"I will be smarter than Darren Barker, and I think by the end he will have run out of ideas.

"In his last fight he didn't know what to do in the second half of the fight, but against me he'll need a Plan B, Plan C and Plan D."
