At the Brentwood Center in Brentwood, Essex, Darren Barker (21-0, 14KOs) retained his Commonwealth middleweight title and won the vacant British title with a one-sided battering of Danny Butler (18-3, 3KOs) in seven rounds. Butler was a late replacement for Wayne Elcock.

Barker was in the command from the opening bell. The fight was pretty much one-sided with Butler being able to contend with skill set of Barker. Butler tried his best at the start but he appeared to wear down with each passing round. There were moments were Barker simply could not miss. During the seventh, the ref had finally seen enough and stepped in to stop the contest.
