Essex boxer Darrel ‘The Baptist’ Church 2-0-0 is set to face Angelo ‘Concrete’ Crowe 2(1)-5-0 in what will be his third professional fight at Civic Hall in Grays on March 14th over four three-minute rounds.
Both light-heavyweights have the same number of wins on their record as well as being matched in age at 25-years-old.
Essex boy Church from Tiptree will be looking to extend his unbeaten run to three in three in March after collecting two points wins since joining the paid ranks in July 2014 against opponents Curtis Gargano 0-1-1 and debutant Haider Sadiq four months later in November, both fights located at the same venue – the Civic Hall in Grays.
Crowe from Plymouth, Devon will also be seeking his third win and comes into the fight confidently off the back off a points victory over the same opponent that Church defeated on his debut, Curtis Gargano in October at the Middleton Arena in Lancashire.
Crowe has the edge on experience with four years plus as a pro kicking off his career with a points loss on his debut back in December 2010 to former Midlands Area middleweight champion Prince Davis 10(2)-4(1)-0 in Torquay.
It was approximately three years later in October 2013 before Crowe scored his first win and he did so in style against unbeaten prospect Alex Gibbens 5-1(1)-0 at the Metropole Arena, Brighton with a shock first round stoppage.
For Church, he will be entering into his third contest against an experienced pro with a history of upsetting the home fighter.
Church commented, “I saw his record on Box Rec website and it doesn’t bother me, to be honest.”
He continued, “I had some wars in the unlicensed with some really good boxers, one who’s gone on to be 9-0 as a pro. When I’m focused and fighting fit, I will fight anyone and I’ll be the one doing the knocking out.”
Church first plied his trade in unlicensed circuit winning all 11 of fights and is now trained by Kevin Lilly in his Slaughterhouse Gym in Essex alongside boxers Vinz Kuech, John Wayne Hibbert, Mickey Steeds and Liam Desmond.
“I was getting good support in the unlicensed and it’s doubled now that I’m in the pros, I’m looking forward to my fight in March and hopefully keeping busy throughout the rest of the year.”
The rest of the action on the night features unbeaten southpaw Johnny Coyle 8(2)-0-0 in an eight round welterweight contest.
Another unbeaten southpaw Vinzenz Kuech 5(1)-0-0 also enters in to an eight round contest at welterweight.
Teammate Liam Desmond 3-0-0 is looking to extend his unbeaten run to four in four against Dan Blackwell, brother to former English middleweight champ Nicky Blackwell.
Brett Saggs looks forward to a busy campaign with this scheduled four round welterweight fight his second of the year as he is booked to fight at the Camden Centre on February 7th on a Hellraiser promotions show. The 23-year-old will be looking to come out of this fight with his fifth straight win.
Trainer-come-boxer Frank Greaves 0-1-0 will be seeking his first win after losing on his debut to former Southern Area welterweight champion Gavin Tait 14(4)-10(1)-0 in November last year.
Debutant light-heavyweight boxer, Joe Jackson Brown from Banbury, embarks in his pro debut and is a product of the hugely successful Queensbury Boxing League run by former English welterweight champion Ross Minter and business partner Alan Foley.
Tickets to the show are priced at £35 for standard and £50 for ringside and available from Team Church on 07938 878 962
