Three-weight world champion Vic Darchinyan is still hoping to entice former foe Nonito Donaire into a rematch and has even offered to give the WBC and WBO champion 100% of the purse to get a rematch with the man regarded as one of the best pound for pound fighters in the sport. Darchinyan was stopped in five rounds by Donaire in 2007.
The 35 year-old proved he was still a force at world title level by stopping Yonnhy Perez in five rounds last month to claim his eight career world championship and is ready to meet the best in the division or will move up to 122lbs to have a crack at a fourth weight class.
“For over 4 years, Donaire would not agree to a rematch. I want to show what I’m capable of, yet I cannot get him to agree. I even offered to let him have my fee in exchange for a match,” Darchinyan told Panarmenian.net.
With IBF champion Jospeh Agbeko still committed to the Showtime tournament, whilst also out with an injury and Donaire caught up in a contract wrangle with Golden Boy and current promoters Top Rank, that could leave the Australian-based Armenian with no option but to move so super-bantamweight.
