BoxingScene.com was advised by promoter Gary Shaw that negotiations are ongoing for Vic Darchinyan (35-2, 27KOs) to defend his IBO bantamweight title against Abner Mares (20-0-1, 13KOs) in a year-end slugfest. The fight, according to Shaw, would take place in either November or December.
Darchinyan would make his third ring appearance of the year. He decisioned Rodrigo Guerrero in March and then moved to bantamweight in May to capture the IBO with a lopsided decision over Eric Barcelona. Like Darchinyan, Mares would return to action for the third time in 2010. He went through Felipe Almanza in five rounds in March and then fought to a majority draw with IBF champion Yonnhy Perez in May.
