The negotiations to finalize the super flyweight rematch between Vic Darchinyan and Nonito Donaire have been dragging. Promoter Gary Shaw is starting to lose his patience, and so is Darchinyan and his team. Nearly every point has been agreed upon - except the financial terms involved with the international television rights.
The two sides spoke on Friday and were unable to finalize the deal. Shaw has not given up on finalizing a deal, but he already has an alternate plan in position.
"I spoke with [Top Rank's vice president of operations] Carl Morretti [on Friday] and we still don't have a deal on the international money. If we can't reach an agreement, then we want to fight the winner of [IBF bantamweight champ] Yonnhy Perez and Abner Mares [scheduled for May 22] in August," Shaw told BoxingScene.com.
