Sources close to one of the leading Russian promoters Vladimir Hryunov indicate that the latter has started negotiations with Roberto Diaz from the Golden Boy Promotions regarding a possible WBA “Unification” between the “interim” champion Dmitry Chudinov (14-0-2, 9 KOs) and the “regular” champion Daniel Jacobs (28-1, 25 KOs) from the States.
According to boxko.ru, negotiations will be continued the next week. The fight can land in New York somewhere in November and can be broadcasted by Showtime.
WBA #1 Dmitry Chudinov, who acquired his belt in December 2013 and defended it twice in 2014, last fought this past Saturday and stopped rugged Frenchman Mehdi Bouadla within three rounds. Jacobs, whose only loss came off the hands of Chudinov’s compatriot Dmitry Pirog in July 2010, halted 18-1 Jarrod Fletcher for a regular piece on the very same date in Brooklyn, New York.
Both fighters have also competed for the 10th spot in the recent Transnational Boxing Rankings Board’s middleweight rating, with Jacobs edging Chudinov just barely. The only universally recognized WBA champion in this weight class is WBA Super champion Gennady Golovkin.
