After losing the biggest bout of his career against super middleweight Anthony Mundine in April, Danny Green announced that he would likely retire from the ring. Green was said to be serious about retirement after Australian boxing legend Johnny Lewis advised him to hang up the gloves.

A few months have gone by and the boxing bug has bitten Green, making him forget retirement and prepare for a ring return on September 23 against Sydney fighter Jason De Lisle, in a rematch.

Green stopped De Lisle in the fifth round of their 2003 bout.
