A week after receiving a $5 million dollar offer for a rematch with Anthony Mundine, former champ Danny Green says that he is leaning towards accepting the rematch proposal. Mundine decisioned Green in 2006 in a mega-showdown in Australia. Since the fight, the demand has grown for a rematch of the biggest fight in the history of Australian boxing.
Green moved up to the light heavyweight division to win the WBA light heavyweight title last December. He announced his retirement from the sport a few months ago and vacated the title. He says the super middleweight limit is not a possibility. If a rematch were to take place, Mundine would have to meet him at 175-pounds.
"It's a crazy offer and every day since I've retired the fire has been burning intensely in my belly," Green told The Sunday Times. "The money won't make my decision; it's just a bonus. But it's a mad bonus to do what I'm good at and what I love doing. It's a challenging decision for me to make - my whole world has been turned upside-down. I know my family will support me no matter what."
Green says that he put himself through hell to make weight for the Mundine bout in 06, and a rematch would give him a shot at revenge if they met at light heavyweight. He is confident of winning.
"I'm always confident. I was blessed with a punch, a very good chin, and strong will to win," Green said. "My confidence will never waiver when it comes to my opponent. I don't see this as being any different."
