IBO cruiserweight champion overcame all of the critics and showed everyone what we already knew, Roy Jones Jr. needs to retire. Before thousands of Australian fans who packed Acer arena in Sydney, Green crushed Jones in one round, which destroys the already planned rematch between Jones and Bernard Hopkins for next March in Las Vegas.
Green told the media he had a secret punch that would knock Jones out. He landed that punch. A big right hand sent Jones down midway through the first round. The veteran beat the count and then Green battered him against the ropes until the ref Howard Foster jumped in to stop the action at 2:02. It was the third knockout loss for Jones and the sixth loss of his career, sending him to 54-6, 40KO. Green raises his record to 28-3, 25KO.
