Danny Green cruised to a 10-round decision over Roberto Bolonti in their cruiserweight fight Wednesday evening in Melbourne, Australia.

Scores were 100-90 across the board in favor of Green. who initiated whatever action there was to be found on the night in his first fight in nearly three years.

The fact that Green forced the pace is a testament to just how little purpose Bolonti serves in high profile bouts these days. That much was made clear in his two-round dance with Jean Pascal last December in Canada, when he sought the nearest exit and managed to turn a knockout loss into a no-contest.

Fans would have welcomed any sort of early ending to Wednesday's affair, although Green at the very least managed to get in some rounds. The wildly popular Aussie boxer hadn't fought since Nov. '12. The inactivity showed in the early going, though of course coupled with the fact that he's a 42-year old boxer on the comeback trail.

Still, Green deserves credit for wanting to get down and fight, which is more than can be said of his opponent. Bolonti was content to settle for throwing one punch at a time, of the mentality that he would land a home run shot rather than putting in the necessary work to win a fight on the road.

Green grew more comfortable in the ring as the bout wore on, moving forward and looking to land power shots. Bolonti wasn't quite as willing, although both seemed content with the frequent clinching and hugging that took place.

Another hug took place at the end of the 10th and final round, when both fighters embraced in the spirit of sportsmanship. It also gave the fans a chance to stop booing, as the only treat of the night was that their local hero was back.

The win is Green's third straight, but first since a 12-round decision over New Zealand's Shane Cameron in Nov. '12. The former light heavyweight titlist advances to 34-5 (28KOs).

Bolonti falls to 36-4 (25KOs), and hopefully out of relevance after yet another stinker performance. The Argentine mauler remains winless on the road, having previously dropped decisions to Tony Bellew (Nov. '12  in England) and light heavyweight titlsit Juergen Braehmer (June '14 in Germany).

The bout headlined on Main Event in Australia, as well as TyC Sports in Argentina and the United States.
