Brooklyn, New York - Two particular welterweights were in attendance to watch Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KO's) defeat Paulie Malignaggi at the Barclays Center - and they were Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman and ‘Showtime’ Shawn Porter.
While Thurman wanted to wait to talk about a possible showdown, Porter took heed to a comment Garcia said that he had the perfect style to beat Porter. The Porters took notice of the comment and seemingly want a fight with Garcia next.
To that notion Garcia said, “We got the same manager [in Al Haymon]. I didn’t say nothing bad about him but if he got mad it’s on him if he was butt hurt, but we got the same manager and that fight could happen. “
Garcia has been criticized for certain fights a lot of people though he lost, particularly Mauricio Herrera and Lamont Peterson. Garcia said he wasn’t 100 percent in those fights and more like 65 percent; that 65 percent was still enough for victories according to Team Garcia.
His trainer and father told the press how easy the world forgets the wins Garcia had over Lucas Matthysse and Amir Khan.
“We always talking about the same fights,” the trainer said. “Let’s talk about Amir Khan and Lucas Matthysse, not pity pat punchers like Lamont Peterson n Mauricio Herrera. Peterson! We know what he does coming in 20 lbs. overweight!”
Garcia has been very vocal telling the press that anyone can get it at 147 but his job is to train his son while Haymon picks the fight.
“There’s a lot of great matchups. If Al wants DSG to fight Porter or Thurman, let’s do it. He (Haymon) picks them, I train Danny, and he beats them. But Al is the brain.”
