WBA junior middleweight champion Daniel Santos is looking for a new beginning when he defends his title against undefeated Yuri Foreman on the Pacquiao vs. Cotto pay-per-view undercard on November 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Santos, currently training in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, plans to depart for Las Vegas on Tuesday.
Santos has been inactive since last July's title win over Joachim Alcine. A few weeks ago, Santos looked very heavy as he attended the Broadway Boxing card in Puerto Rico. At the moment he weighs 160-pounds and has more than enough time to make weight by next Friday. Santos knows that he needs an impressive win in order to land a big fight opportunity.
"It's a good opportunity and have to seize it because it can open some doors for me," Santos said to El Nuevo Dia. "In this bout I'm faced an elite fighter. A victory over him takes me to a higher level than where I'm currently at."
Francisco Santos, father and trainer, agreed with his son. They are willing to face the best at junior middle, middleweight or super middleweight.
"It will be interesting and the event is being sold worldwide. We are willing to fight at 154, 160 or 168. What audiences will see is a renewed Daniel. He has improved a lot on the technical end. The training is complete. We are very well prepared for this fight," the trainer said. "Yuri has fought the same since he was an amateur. The only adjustments we have to make is in the ring."
