WBA junior middleweight champion Daniel Santos is still trying to get a fight. He would like to fight WBC interim-champion Sergio Martinez at the end of April. He was previously offered a fight with Martinez for the triple-header that that was televised on HBO on February 14, but turned it down due to the late notice and concerns over making weight.
Santos has been without a fight since winning the title from Joachim Alcine last July.
"There are several options being discussed, including a fight in April or in June. But everything is still at the negotiating table, "said Santos to Primera Hora.
A member of Santos' team told the paper that Martinez is the first option, and there is also talk of a possible defense against undefeated Yuri Foreman on the undercard to Miguel Cotto's June 13 return in New York.
"If Vernon Forrest gets stripped, the fight with Martinez could be for both titles. We have to sit down and negotiate with Don King to talk about these plans and if we decide on the Foreman fight, then we will negotiate with Bob Arum (promoter of Foreman).
