New York - From The New York Golden Gloves to defeating cancer, Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KO’s) will fulfill one of his biggest dreams - headlining a big pay-per-view card from Madison Square Garden.
Jacobs will be inside the ring of the world’s most famous arena, live on HBO pay-per-view - a scenario that he still can’t believe is finally here.
“There are so many fighters that come out here and don’t make it,” Jacobs told BoxingScene.com. “Hard work and dedication got me here and a shot at the middleweight champion of the word. I’m extremely thankful and grateful and anxious. On Saturday night I am going to put it all together, not only to win but to make some more fans in the process of victory.”
Jacobs will be fighting the unified WBA, IBF, WBC and IBO middleweight champion of the world, Gennady ‘GGG” Golovkin 36-0, 33 KO’s).
The last time Golovkin fought at Madison Square Garden, he stopped David Lemieux in a fight he dominated with a jab and body shots. Lemieux said he was expecting Golovkin's trademark ‘Mexican Style” - where the big puncher comes forward to trade shot. The Canadian slugger was disappointed the way the fight played out. Jacobs is expecting a complete Golovkin and that is exactly what his team prepared for, by putting together different plans for whatever Golovkin attempts.
“I don't really know what to expect,” stated the Brooklyn middleweight. “We’ll see how he comes out in the first round and the first half of the fight and then we’ll adapt. You really don’t know what to expect until you get in the ring. You have to have a plan A, plan B and plan C. You just never know what he's bringing to the table”
The trainer of Golovkin, Abel Sanchez, has predicted a knockout. Jacobs laughed it off and says that the trainer has no idea what’s coming Saturday.
“He can predict anything. He doesn’t know what I’m going to do. I have plenty of things in the arsenal. I even switched southpaw. So how could you predict what I’m going to do, We’ll see Saturday night," Jacobs said.
