On Monday morning featherweight hopeful, Daniel Franco, was at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, California, getting in some sparring. Franco last fought on November 10th, stopping Derrick Murray in four rounds in Washington, D.C.
Moving forward, his father - who also serves as his trainer - told BoxingScene.com that his son will be returning to the ring - "March 23rd at the L.A. Exchange in downtown Los Angeles."
Currently Franco has a record of 15-0-3(10 KO's) and is the USBA featherweight belt-holder.
"Hopefully we stay busy, four or five fights this year," said Franco as it relates to his son's 2017 inside the ring.
"That's what we're hoping for, I know he has a mandatory on his USBA title within the next couple of months. He fights March 23rd, I'd assume his next fight would be a mandatory, hopefully on one of the bigger names undercards. We do that, stay busy and hopefully by the end of the year, beginning of next, we're in a position to step it up and get on that highway and see what he's all about."
Franco is promoted by RocNation Sports, which has had problems securing their own dates and television deals and has been relegated to farming out their young prospects to club shows around the country. So just what is the direction and future of this outfit?
"The manager, Ray Chapparo, handles that. The matchmakers do the matchmaking, the promoters promote and I just get him ready," said Franco. "I don't know who we are going to fight, the day we're going to fight till they call me. I hope they do well, I know they have the resources and the knowledge there with Dino Duva and Eric Bottjer. I know they can do great things."
