Dalton Smith will return to the ring next month, as part of Eddie Hearn’s behind-closed-doors venture.

The Sheffield super-lightweight, who was a star amateur and has raced to 5-0 with four quick since turning professional last May, was last in action in March.

Smith, 23, established himself as one of the very best prospects in the country as an amateur, winning medals at the junior European Championships and youth Commonwealth Games, as well as representing Team GB around the world and taking on the very best amateurs on the planet in the World Series of Boxing.

And he has been earmarked as one of the fighters to feature on Matchroom Boxing’s Fight Camp series.

The concept, which will see fights held in the back garden of the company’s Brentwood headquarters, is set to be revealed this week, with the first fight night lined up for July 25.

A tasty clash between British featherweight rivals Jordan Gill and Reece Bellotti has been agreed for the first show, as have a number of other dust-ups.
Dillian Whyte, the WBC’s interim heavyweight champion who is still campaigning for his shot at Tyson Fury’s world title, is set to complete the Fight Camp series in a showdown against Alexander Povetkin, with the final date looking like August 15.

Hearn has already mentioned that the undisputed female lightweight title fight between Katie Taylor, who holds the WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO and Ring Magazine world titles, and seven-weight world champion Amanda Serrano is being targeted to flank Whyte vs. Povetkin on the final Fight Camp card, as is a fight between Jack Cullen, the former English middleweight champion who recently challenged Felix Cash for the Commonwealth title at the weight, and Irishman Jason Quigley.

Nathan Bennett has been the one to step forward and agree to take on Dalton Smith in the first show of Fight Camp.

The Liverpudlian has had two wins since suffering his first setback as a pro last October, most recently in March, and is set to be “excited about being given such a brilliant opportunity” to show “what I can do.”

There are a number of other fights that had been agreed prior to the COVID-19 pandemic that Hearn is planning on staging during the Fight Camp.
The WBC and IBO female world super-featherweight title fight between Terri Harper and Natasha Jonas is set to headline one of the four events, while Chris Billam-Smith’s Commonwealth cruiserweight title defence against Nathan Thorley –– originally set for May 9 at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, Wales –– will land on one of them alongside the vacant English heavyweight title clash between Simon Vallily and Fabio Wardley.

Conor Benn will fit in somewhere, while Ted Cheeseman will challenge Sam Eggington for the IBF International super-welterweight title and James Tennyson will meet Gavin Gwynne for the vacant British lightweight title.

Luther Clay against Chris Kongo and Shannon Courtenay against Rachel Ball have also been added to the agenda, with Zelfa Barrett, Martin Bakole and Anthony Fowler set for slots.

The aforementioned Cash will defend his Commonwealth belt against former WBC International super-welterweight title challenger Jason Welborn and others will be revealed in due course.
